Scottish Highlands Coffee Roaster

What’s Bean Grinding is a small independent coffee roastery in Strathnaver, North Sutherland, in the far north of the Scottish Highlands. I roast distinctive speciality coffees in small batches, using renewable electricity and solar power whenever the Highland weather allows.

From my small roastery in Strathnaver, I roast each coffee in carefully controlled batches, developing a profile that brings out its sweetness, clarity and individual character. Orders are roasted fresh each Monday and prepared for dispatch on Tuesday.

Roasted with renewable energy

The roastery is fully electric and supplied through a 100% green electricity tariff. During the brighter months, solar panels here in Strathnaver generate electricity directly from the Scottish sun, helping to power the roaster and reduce the footprint of every batch.

The Coffee Bean Box

At the end of the drive, the Coffee Bean Box is stocked with freshly roasted coffee for passers-by and local customers. It works on trust, so people can choose a bag, pay honestly and enjoy coffee roasted just a short distance away here in Strathnaver.

I choose coffees for their character, sweetness and the story behind them. Some are clean and classic, while others are fruity, unusual or produced using experimental processing methods. Each one is roasted in small batches to bring out what makes it distinctive.
