Solar-roasted coffee, new arrivals and the bean box
I thought it was time for a little update from What’s Bean Grinding, as there is plenty happening at the roastery at the moment.
The coffee bean box is now set up at the end of the drive, and I am keeping it stocked with freshly roasted coffee for passers-by. It is a simple honesty box setup, so anyone passing can stop, pick up a bag and enjoy some locally roasted coffee at home.
I also have an exciting natural Brazilian coffee arriving, which I am looking forward to roasting with espresso in mind. I think it could be particularly well suited to those who enjoy their coffee with milk, preferably oat milk, of course. I am hoping for plenty of sweetness, body and rich chocolatey fruit flavours that will work beautifully in a flat white or latte.
There are also two very limited Geisha coffees on the way, one from Peru and one from Tanzania. These are both coffees I am incredibly excited to profile and explore. Geisha coffees can be wonderfully aromatic, delicate and complex, so I will be taking my time to find the roast profile that allows each one to show what makes it special.
Do not worry, though, these will be sampled first by my Explorer subscribers at no additional cost. Who needs a business that actually makes money, right?
Explorer coffee subscriptions are available for anyone who enjoys trying something different. Each coffee is an opportunity to experiment, adjust your brewing and discover new flavours, and that process of exploration is a big part of what the subscription is all about.
Finally, the solar panels have been working hard this summer. Although the roastery already runs on a green electricity-only tariff, some recent batches have been roasted using power generated right here from the Scottish sun.
Yes, that is right, 100% solar-roasted coffee!
Thank you, as always, for supporting my little Highland micro-roastery.
Chris
