Why you’ll love it

  • Red apple & forest fruits; brown sugar finish
  • Fully washed clarity; sun-dried sweet depth
  • Organic & Fairtrade cooperative lot
Story

San Juan Cooperative, Caranavi. Founded in 1974 and refounded in 1992, San Juan R.L. brings together 41 smallholders farming in the Yungas. The co-op has worked to organic practices since the 1990s and holds Fairtrade certification.

Bolivian specialty coffee is rare, with national output reduced by leaf rust and shifts to other crops. Caranavi remains the country’s coffee capital, and this lot shows why, offering a sweet, clean profile that highlights careful picking and processing.

Process

Fully washed process. Hand-picked ripe cherries are carefully sorted, pulped and fermented to remove mucilage, then washed clean and sun-dried on raised tables for an even, clean cup.

  • Selective manual harvesting of ripe fruit
  • Pulping and controlled fermentation
  • Thorough washing
  • Natural drying on raised beds

The result is clarity and sweetness with a balanced citric-malic acidity.
