Why you’ll love it

  • Anaerobic Bourbon from Rwanda
  • Dark chocolate, honey, floral and winey notes
  • Coffee as a gift for community transformation
Story

Rwanda’s coffee heritage is rooted in high altitude, volcanic soils, and Bourbon varieties. Despite producing much of Rwanda’s coffee, the Nyamasheke/Nyaruguru communities remain among the poorest. Impano (Gift) was created to highlight coffee as a means of transformation and social cohesion. Beyond flavour, it symbolises community strength and the shared value of coffee in everyday life, from family meals to social gatherings.

Process

Anaerobic fermentation for ~100 hours. Carefully controlled fermentation in sealed tanks develops complex fruit, floral, and wine-like characteristics balanced with dark chocolate depth.

Sustainability & Packaging

This coffee comes from smallholder farmers in Rwanda’s Southern Province, where co-operatives and washing stations sustain thousands of families. Impano (Gift) represents the community’s vision that coffee can uplift livelihoods and bring people together. WBG complements this by roasting with renewable energy, using compostable packaging, and contributing 2% of revenue to carbon removal.
