Story

Uganda has a long coffee-growing history dating back to the early 1900s and is one of Africa's most important coffee-producing nations. While many people associate Uganda with Robusta, the country's high-altitude western regions also produce excellent Arabica coffees.

This DRUGAR comes from western Uganda, where investment in farming practices and processing infrastructure is helping producers steadily improve quality year after year. It may be a commercial-grade coffee, but it represents honest farming, dependable quality and fantastic everyday drinking.

Process

DRUGAR stands for Dried Ugandan Arabica, Uganda's traditional natural processing method that has been used by smallholder farmers for generations.

Fresh cherries are harvested before being carefully dried whole in the sun, allowing the fruit sugars to naturally develop around the bean. Once fully dried, the cherries are hulled to reveal the green coffee. This simple but effective process creates a fuller-bodied coffee with subtle fruit sweetness that works particularly well in espresso blends.

Sustainability & Packaging

This coffee is sourced through UGACOF/Sucafina Uganda, who are investing heavily in farmer education and improved processing infrastructure across western Uganda. Their work includes developing washing stations, improving coffee quality and helping farming communities achieve higher returns through better production methods.

Although western Uganda is less established than the famous Mount Elgon region, continued investment is helping unlock the area's impressive coffee potential while creating stronger long-term livelihoods for producers.
