Story

The Aguilera Brothers are one of Costa Rica's most respected coffee-producing families. Made up of twelve siblings, the family has been cultivating coffee in the West Valley region for more than sixty years.

When specialty coffee began gaining momentum in Costa Rica during the early 2000s, the family embraced the opportunity to focus on exceptional quality. Their dedication has been rewarded repeatedly through success in the prestigious Cup of Excellence competitions, where their coffees have been recognised among the country's finest for over fifteen years.

Today, the Aguilera family produce more than thirty-five Arabica varieties across multiple farms, experimenting with different processing methods while continuing to refine the coffees that have earned them an international reputation. This Villa Sarchi is a wonderful example of that expertise: sweet, elegant and unmistakably Costa Rican.

Process

This coffee is produced using the Honey Process, one of Costa Rica's most celebrated processing methods.

After harvesting, the coffee cherries are depulped but a portion of the sticky fruit mucilage is intentionally left on the beans during drying. This remaining fruit layer contributes additional sweetness, body and complexity while maintaining clarity and structure in the cup.

The result is a coffee that bridges the gap between washed and natural processing, combining clean citrus brightness with rich caramelised sweetness and a smooth, rounded mouthfeel.

Sustainability & Packaging

The Aguilera family have been producing coffee in Costa Rica's West Valley for over six decades and shifted their focus towards specialty coffee more than fifteen years ago. By concentrating on quality rather than volume, they have created a more sustainable future for both their farms and local communities.

The family cultivates more than thirty-five Arabica varieties across multiple farms and continues to invest in quality-focused production methods. Their long-standing success in Costa Rica's Cup of Excellence competitions reflects a commitment to continuous improvement and responsible stewardship of the land.

This coffee also contributes towards the work of World Coffee Research, supporting the development of resilient coffee varieties and helping secure the future of coffee production worldwide.
