  • Natural Ethiopian sweetness
  • Plum & praline richness
  • Heirloom varieties
Story

Limu is a woreda in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, an area known for producing balanced coffees with a softer fruit profile and rounded sweetness. Coffee from this lot is grown by around 560 smallholder farmers in the Limu Woreda, where coffee is often cultivated in small garden plots.

As is common in Ethiopia, cherries are delivered to a centralised processing facility, where attention to detail is key. With Ethiopia’s extraordinary genetic diversity of coffee, careful drying and handling ensures that the natural character of heirloom varieties is preserved. This lot reflects Limu’s reputation for approachable, comforting coffees that still carry a strong sense of place.

Process

Natural process:

  • Hand-picked ripe cherries
  • Careful sorting to remove underripe fruit
  • Whole cherries dried on raised African beds
  • Slow, even drying to around 10 % moisture

This method builds sweetness and depth, resulting in a smooth, chocolate-forward cup with gentle fruit character.

Sustainability & Packaging

Coffee production in Limu is driven by smallholder farmers who typically grow coffee in garden plots alongside food crops. Centralised processing allows quality control at scale while maintaining traceability back to the farming communities. Careful handling during fermentation and drying is essential to preserving both flavour clarity and environmental balance.
