Why you’ll love it

  • Kenyan peaberry rarity
  • Chocolate, raisin & blackcurrant sweetness
  • Washed clarity from Kamandi & Ndia-ini mills
Story

The SL varietals (SL28 & SL34) were developed in the 1930s by Scott Laboratories for drought resistance and high quality. This peaberry blend, named Zawadi (“Gift”), combines lots from Kamandi and Ndia-ini factories to capture the essence of Kenyan terroir; fruit-laden, complex and clean. With every cup, you experience generations of selective breeding and washing-station excellence.

Process

Washed process:

  • Cherries pulped and sorted by density through channels
  • Fermentation followed by a secondary 24-hour soak
  • Sun-dried on raised beds before hulling and grading

This traditional double fermentation brings Kenya’s signature depth and acidity.

Sustainability & Packaging

Zawadi (“Gift” in Swahili) supports smallholders across Kenya’s Central Province. Producers deliver cherries to washing stations such as Kamandi and Ndia-ini, where clean water from the Gikira River aids in careful washing and fermentation. The resulting peaberry lots provide consistent quality and vital income for farming families.
